NoVirusThanks File Governor is a tiny software program that provides users with a simple means of unlocking files that are being used by another person or app. This software tool enables you search the contents of a specified directory for locked files, and displays them in the main window, along with information such as product ID, process, path, format and handle. This list can be cleared with just a click of the button, while it is also possible to force delete, reboot delete, copy and rename files.


This small, portable app enables users to unlock files and folders in order to modify or delete them. Files that are open in an application or have been given a special status by the operating system cannot be deleted. NoVirusThanks File Governor Portable provides users with a means of unlocking these files by killing the process that is currently accessing them.

This is a portable application that can be run from a mobile storage device, such as a USB stick and does not require installation.

It does not create any registry entries nor does it automatically add files and folders to the system's directory structure.

It is installed by simply downloading and extracting the provided ZIP archive to a convenient location. Once this task has been completed, users can run the program by double-clicking its icon. No setup is required.

One can easily unlock a file or folder by dragging and dropping it into the main window of the application. The program then proceeds to scan the system for any processes that are keeping said file or folder open and therefore locked.

Once the application has identified these processes, users have the option of terminating or unlocking them. DLLs that have been loaded can be forced to unload.

The application also provides users with the option of removing these files during a reboot of the system.

Most of these operations can be carried out either from the application's context or Tools menus.

Users can also search the Internet for, or copy the name of such a process to the clipboard. This can come in handy if one suspects it of being malicious, or just wants to avoid killing a useful system task.
